Johan Roos

Managing Partner / Portfolio Manager

Johan Roos began his trading career at JPMorgan in Johannesburg in 1998. At JPMorgan he oversaw repo trading on South Africa government debt and progressed onto the money market and short dated FX trading and Interest Rate Trading.

From JPMorgan Johan joined Standard Bank’s Interest Rate Derivative trading desk. Prior to establishing Oakhaven Capital he had become the Director and Head of Interest Rate Trading for Standard Bank South Africa, was a member of the Corporate and Investment Banks Global Markets Treasury Exco. Johan was also a voting member of Standard Banks Interest Rate View and Outlook committee, sat on the banks ALCO trading book. He represented Standard Bank at the JSE's OTC market forum as well as the JSE's Bond Exchange primary dealers’ association. 

Johan participated in various market guiding forums in the Fixed Income and Interest Rate Derivative markets. At Standard Bank he was responsible for all local Interest Rate Trading businesses as well as G7 Trading. This involved actively trading and market making all Interest rate and Interest rate derivative products, managing client flows, executing and managing the banks exposures in local, African and foreign markets.

Linda Nyembezi

Assistant Portfolio Manager

Linda Nyembezi started her career in financial markets in 2005 as a trainee Fixed Income dealer at Kagiso Securities, a pioneer black owned securities business. The role included learning the functions of the fixed income market, largely in the vanilla bond space and taking small intra-day trading positions.

After a year Linda moved on to Deutsche Bank AG as a fixed income sales analyst looking after the local institutional client base – responsible for the execution of money market, bond, interest rate derivatives and FX market orders. Working closely with the Debt Origination team she was also involved in successful bookbuilds assisting the bank’s corporate clients raise funds in the bond market.

In 2010 Linda then joined Standard Bank’s Fixed Income Derivatives team again working closely with the various trading and funding desks within the bank as well as the debt capital markets teams to distribute primary market issuance to the investor base and providing secondary market liquidity. In 2017 Linda left Standard Bank to set up a dedicated Fixed Income brokerage business with an eventual pivot in 2023 into the Fund management space as an assistant Portfolio Manager.

Bruce Thistlewhite

Managing Partner / Portfolio Manager

Bruce Thistlewhite started at Standard Bank in 1999, helping with the euro conversion before joining the money market desk in May 2001, where he became director and head of the treasury money market trading and funding.

He managed Standard Bank’s liquidity, funding and interest rate risk for the rand and foreign currency portfolios. He was part of the asset and liability management committee and sat on the ALCO Exco and Trading Exco. He managed a staff complement of 25 people and was an integral part of the African Treasury for Standard Bank Group.

Bruce left Standard Bank in June 2010 to go on his own, manage his own money and looking to launch a collective investment scheme in his own venture before deciding to join Oakhaven Capital in 2013. Bruce joined Johannesburg-based Oakhaven Capital, teaming up with former Standard Bank colleagues Johan Roos and Jeremy Berman on the investment side.
